 A sponsoring agreement has been
agreed between Arctic Securities and Magnus Carlsen. Carlsen is ranked as no. 1 on the world ranking of chess players and is the only western chess player among the top 10. Carlsen has the previous world champion Garri Kasparov as his coach and is working dedicated to towards the goal of becoming ranked as the no 1 chess player in the world. Carlsen is the best representative for top excellence within both analysis and implementation.

| | | Magnus Carlsen`s Blog | | Moskva 5.november 2009 | Tal Memorial til ære for tidligere verdensmester Mikhael Tal, trollmannen fra Riga, arrangeres for 4.år på rad i Moskva ifbm Tals fødselsdag 9.november.
Det meste av verdenseliten er samlet til det som blir årets sterkeste turnering. Kun bulgareren Topalov mangler. Vi spiller 9 runder alle mot alle. Russerne legger tydeligvis mye prestisje i turneringen som har støtte fra øverste politiske hold, og vi er innkvartert på storslagne Ritz-Carlton nær Kreml.
Jeg er høyest rangert av deltagerne og deler vel favorittstempelet med regjerende verdensmester inderen Vishy Anand, tidligere verdensmester russeren Vladimir Kramnik og armeneren Levon Aronian.
I gårsdagens trekning var jeg heldig og fikk startnummer 1, akkurat som i Nanjing i Kina i forrige måned. Startnummer 1-5 får fordelen av 5 hvite og 4 sorte partier.
Jeg begynner med to hvite på rad og i dagens 1.runde møtte jeg Kramnik som nå er nummer 5 på verdensrankingen.
Han overrasket meg litt i åpningen, og jeg kom dessverre litt skjevt ut.
Senere bølget partiet frem og tilbake og begge spilte i perioder for å vinne. I femte spilletime var jeg litt for optimistisk og endte opp med å måtte forsvare meg både aktivt og presist for å berge remis og et halv poeng etter 6 timers intens kamp.
Ikke helt hva jeg hadde håpet på forhånd, men også de andre partiene endte uavgjort og alle deltagerne ligger dermed likt før morgendagens 2.runde .Jeg møter den kreative og uberegnlige russeren Alexander Morozevich.
