| | | About Magnus Carlsen | | Arctic Securities is sponsoring the chess star Magnus Carlsen
A sponsoring agreement has been agreed between Arctic Securities and Magnus Carlsen.
Magnus became an International Grandmaster at the age of 13, the youngest at the time. In October 2009, during the Nanjing Pearl Spring tournament, he became the fifth chess player in the history to achieve an Elo-rating over 2800 – by far the youngest to do so. That year he also became The World Blitz Chess Champion. On January the 1st of 2010 the new FIDE list was published and at the age of 19 Magnus became the youngest ever chess player to be ranked World Number One. Carlsen is the best representative for top excellence within both analysis and implementation.
Arctic Securities is an employee owned investment bank, independent of all other financial institutions, with competence, integrity, discretion, agility and independent analysis as it's core values.
Carlsen represents values and characteristics in accordance with these core values, values that Arctic employees and clients easily can associate with.
The sponsoring agreement will run for two years - from November 30th 2009 until December 31st 2011. The parties have a common ambition that the cooperation will be long term, hence there is a possibility for a prolongation of the arrangement.
Activities with clients, other contacts and employees.
In addition to being a source of inspiration for Arctic's clients and employees, Magnus will contribute in the development of Arctic's corporate identity and culture as well as participate on various arrangements directed towards clients and employees.
The intention is that Magnus is to participate on up to 6 events annually, events that will consist of both lectures and chess-playing activities. In lectures, Magnus will focus on the training techniques he uses in his pursuit to become the no 1 chess player in the world, while the various chess playing activities may consist of informal tournaments and playing against several opponents simultaneously.
Magnus may also be available for Arctic Securities on smaller events, to the extent that this is fitting into his tournament and training schedule.
Further, through this sponsoring agreement it is the intention that also Carlsen's personal coach, Mr Garri Kasparov on an annual basis will participate on one of Arctic's major events.
Hereafter, Carlsen will be blogging through Arctic Securities homepage, www.arcticsec.no. Here he will update on preparations and developments in tournaments.
Communication and Marketing
Arctic Securities may make use of Carlsen for marketing purposes and in profiling activities. He will be an ambassador for Arctic Securities both through personal presence at various events and through exposing the Arctic logo in various public appearances.
Recruitment
In Arctic's search for "the brightest heads", Carlsen can be a significant profile, and if participating on recruiting arrangements he may demonstrate his abilities playing simultaneous games of chess against several students.
Mads H. Syversen on the cooperation with Magnus Carlsen;
"I see several similarities with Magnus Carlsen, making him into the natural choice of role models and a preferred sponsored partner for Arctic Securities. Magnus personally is the top representative for the highest quality within analysis and determination. His extreme ambitions and ability to perform under pressure is impressive. At the same time he is a sympathetic, sporty and likeable young guy.
Magnus' is the challenger among the top chess players and is from a country without tradition and culture in fostering world class performers within intellectual sports (arts?). He has already achieved broad recognition both nationally and internationally and he represents values and characteristics that both clients and employees of Arctic can easily associate with.
Carlsen's level of performance and precision can easily stand as an ideal for employees of Arctic Securities".
Magnus Carlsen on the cooperation with Arctic Securities;
I am happy that I have a partner that, as myself, is dependent upon performing on the highest level - and being professional to the fingertips.
I am proud that my achievements are being appreciated in this manner by Arctic Securities. I have followed up on their development and developed a deep respect for Arctic Securities achievements and what they represent.
For both chess players and an investment bank such as Arctic Securities, precision is of the essence and mistakes can be fatal. We both have in common that we are dependent upon performing at our best to achieve our goals.
It is very important for me that this agreement with Arctic Securities now enables me to continue my collaboration with former world champion Mr. Garri Kasparov. My job going forward will be to become as good as possible within chess - and to assist my new sponsor Arctic Securities in the best possible way."
